HORSEBOX SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE: The British Horse Society is joining forces with NFU Mutual, the UK’s largest rural insurer, to promote horsebox safety and maintenance. They will be raising awareness of the risks associated with loading and transporting horses and the importance of regular maintenance and routine checks of horseboxes and trailers.

Mrs Nicki Whittaker of NFU Mutual said: “Although many people invest a lot of time and effort in the training and turnout of their horse, a few individuals don’t invest the same amount of time checking that their horsebox or lorry is in tip-top condition and this oversight could jeopardise the safety and well-being of their animal.”

For more news about this initiative contact NFU Mutual or the BHS.

An Introduction to Essex Horsewatch

Valerie Crawford - Chairman & County Coordinator - Essex Horsewatch

With the support of Essex Police, Essex Horsewatch was launched in 1993 to make the fight against equine crime more effective.  We are a voluntary crime prevention organisation, supported by Essex Police.

We offer help and support to victims of equine crime.  Additionally, by using our highly effective network of coordinators and this website, we are able to pass warnings, alerts and details of Essex-based equine crime to our members. Also, as part of a national network, Horsewatch schemes throughout the country are able to share crime information nationwide.

Using the expertise of our Crime Prevention specialists, we also advise on the security of livery yards, tack, trailers and boxes, as well as the various methods of security marking.

There is plenty of information on this site and you can contact me for more details on 07984 928585 or by Email: valerie@essexhorsewatch.org.uk

Jim

Barker-McCardle

Essex's new Chief Constable, Jim Barker-McCardle, has taken over from Roger Baker who has now retired. We would like to thank Mr Baker for his support and commitment to Essex Horsewatch, ensuring that victims of equine crime receive complete service from Essex Police.

We hope to meet with the new Chief Constable soon, to ensure that we continue to receive this support
